Good morning all! It is dark and dreary outside on this September Monday, but I have the scented candles lit and the laptop prepped for a long session, so all is not lost.
The kids are back to school, so I am back to the peace and quiet of the empty house. It is a bit of a novelty to be able to hear myself think, so I am enthusiastically making lots of plans. I spent the Summer holidays knitting a lot of shawlettes and writing up the patterns for them, there are four in total and I will introduce you to them one at a time over the next month.
Firstly, I am very proud to introduce my first design, the Madeleine Shawlette. I recently connected with a very dear friend through Instagram and after realising we share an astronomical amount of things in common, we decided to do a fun postal swap. We made up a little parcel of goodies for each other and posted them off. It was so much fun, choosing little knick knacks and I designed and knit this shawlette for her.
I have a good selection of very beautiful skeins of hand dyed yarns, so is inspired by them. I chose a soft and silky opalescent blue from Ellie and Ada (hi Laura!) and decided that a top down simple triangle would make the yarn sing.
The design is simple, the body is in stocking stitch, bordered by garter stitch with a garter stitch knit on edging. The pattern is on every other row, so it is a nice relaxing knit. Technically as it is a modular pattern, you could knit it as large as you like, so there are lots of options depending in your chosen yarn.
In order to release this lovely pattern, I will need to get it test knit, so I am asking here, if there are any willing knitters out there who would like to try it?
I will need at least 2 people, one for the written instructions and one for the charted instructions.
I will forward the pdf to your email and we can discuss a finish date, I would be hoping for three weeks time.
It would be great if you were also on Ravelry, so that I can link your finished project to the pattern page. So you will need photos of the finished shawl too.
The details are:-
Pattern: Madeleine Shawlette by Aisling M Doonan (Rubysasha Designs)
Yarn used: Ellie and Ada Silk Merino Sock yarn, 50% silk, 50% merino, 437 yards per 100g. My shawl used 96g of yarn and 429 yards approx.
Finished Dimensions: 48" x 24"
Gauge: 34 rows and 24 stitches in pattern
Notes: Lace pattern is charted and written, and is every other row.
I was eager to use up as much of my skein of yarn as possible, so if you have a limited supply of yarn, you will need to pay particular attention to gauge, so that you don't run out.
And so there she is! If you are interested in test knitting Madeleine, please let me know in the comments or use the comments box and I will get back to you with the pdf. I will have three more shawlettes to share in the next few weeks, so stay tuned.
